Shake
I’ll wait until every last word’s out
And I’ll take all the time you need right now
And we’ll lay it all out before the fall-out tears us both apart
When we’re making up or when we’re breaking up we’re gonna realize there’s just two ways to go
We can take or leave this…broken
And we can sew or mend the best that we can
How can I feel this good without you
How can I feel this good and not shake
I’ll wait until every last fight’s fought
And I’ll take every blow glanced off my jaw
We’re gonna see it now, just somehow, through our blackened eyes and broken words from fractured jaws
When we’re picking ourselves up off the mat we’re gonna realize there’s just to ways to go
We can take or leave this…broken.

Dance Slow
I think it’s time you laid all your plans on me
I think it’s time we got clear on everything
If it’s your way of waiting bad situations out
Or if it’s your way of saying I still think about all that time we…
Danced slow by the stove in low kitchen light
Made it known that we both want this new life
Laid close staying warm through them cold nights
I swear we almost got it right
I think its time you got finally sick of me
I think it’s time you just up and packed your things
If it’s your way of waiting bad situations out
Or if it’s your way of saying I still think about all that time we…
Danced slow by the stove in low kitchen light
Made it known that we both want this new life
Laid close staying warm through them cold nights
I swear we almost got it right
In this new life
Did you stay close when you were miles apart inside
You said as much when it was way gone past time
You held fast to whatever felt right
So much for us ever getting it right
In this new life…

Means & Ends
Been looking high and low
For a way to bring you back home
I’ve been high and I’ve been low
But never so low that I couldn’t get back up
I’m so scared that I’ll never feel again, like I do with you
And I’m so scared for you to see me again and know that I want you
While your miles away from where your heart is living
I’m tired of sorting all these means and ends
Now you’re hoping but it’s not enough
That you could bury this hatchet with your tears and blood
Your mouth hanging open while your heart is shut
Your mind keeps racing while your feet are stuck
Marking time in this old home
It’s so empty now that you’re gone
I’ve been right but I don’t know
That it matters much when I’m sinking this low
All them bad thoughts they come back to me again
Like they do to you
And all this fighting won’t make you love me again
And that’s as sad as true

Fogcutter
When you’re backing out my door
And your heart beats a little more like you’re goin’ gone for good
And giving every reason why you should
Your mouth is spitting words your heart’s been hinting at
I could not believe them then and now I’m standing on the banks just screaming when
When your fog ship’s cutting strong
And your captain can’t come along
When there’s sweet winds and strong storms braved
Keep your head and sail straight
And just wait…
When it’s getting hard to take
And I swear my arms won’t break
From carrying that load of letters that
I wrote for you but I never sent
Your mouth is spitting words your heart’s been hinting at
I can’t see straight on through to this
Now my knees have gone weak from your farewell kiss

Ups & Downs
There are days that are crashing on us
Every one it seems we’re fighting them off
Like angry waves that come to drown us
But it’s a storm we’ll all gladly wait out
Because when we’re down it’s just reminding us that we’re never out
Until that last blow comes and forever blinds us and puts us down where we lay for good
Take these hopes and these woes
Pare them down to the bones of somehow
Cheers to the ups & downs
When we’re amazed if we’re feeling right or not engaged in one hell of a mess
It’ll be days before we’re dusting bottles and fighting to pass that one more test
It’s too late for making promises that we’ll never keep
Until that mountain of regret comes and finds us and haunts us at night when we sleep
Take these hopes and these woes
Pare them down to the bones of somehow
Sink right down to the floor of this town and sing out loud
To the tones of somehow, to the rhythms of the ups and downs
You put ‘em right past your lips real fast and you knock ‘em down
Toast to the past with a bottle and a glass and make a sound to the ups and downs

One Long Year

One Long Year
It was like night and day
The way we both fell into this one
Not a common theme
At least not for this one
We said, we don’t fret for what don’t amount to much
But I saw there was an end, we could feel but couldn’t touch
Now we’re going, anywhere but here for all we know
You could tell me so when…
I miss, your kiss
Give me one long year out here to forget
When we sit like this, it’s hard to remember how we started with
Your wrists in my fists, trying to calm you down when there was no one could
Let me pace through all this and give me one long year out here to forget
Now there’s a sharper edge
Than we ever planned putting on this one
And it’s cutting in
There’s no clean breaks for this one
We said we don’t fret if we don’t amount to much
But I’m shocked that this is the end and I can see we’re losing touch
We’re going, anywhere but here for all we know…you could tell me so
Can we bottle all the ashes?

Sail Song
Leave me with time to heal,Leave me to break the seal
On every bottle left aboard this broken ship sailing for comfort and home, I’ll drink ‘til you sail back into my arms again
Leave me those storms to brave , Leave me the wind and rain, Leave me those stars shut right out, Under gunpowder black and grey skies full of doubt, I’ll beg ‘til you sail back into my arms again
Leave me to bow and scrape, Leave me to kneel and pray, Leave me to scream my heart right out, In song for the rest of my days, I’ll wait, I’ll sing ‘til you sail back into my arms again

The Storm Rolls
I spent so long thinking that there’s nothing to say, So I said nothing and I felt my soul bleed, Then I woke up today with so much to say, So I said something and I felt my soul breathe
That’s the way the storm rolls onto me
So I got the feeling that my life felt right, And that’s a scary thought when nothings ever worked out, But what’s a life without worry, What’s a life without words, What’s a life spent sorry for never speaking
